About this book

Book Summary

It's been a year since a meteor collided with the moon, catastrophically altering the earth's climate. For Miranda Evans life as she knew it no longer exists. Her friends and neighbors are dead, the landscape is frozen, and food is increasingly scarce.

The struggle to survive intensifies when Miranda's father and stepmother arrive with a baby and three strangers in tow. One of the newcomers is Alex Morales, and as Miranda's complicated feelings for him turn to love, his plans for his future thwart their relationship. Then a devastating tornado hits the town of Howell, and Miranda makes a decision that will change their lives forever.

Media Reviews

"Starred Review. Throughout, readers will be moved by displays of compassion, strength, and faith as characters endure grim realities and face an uncertain future." - Publishers Weekly

"This seems a more rushed effort than the previous books. ... Still, fans are invested by now, and though this could (and probably should) be the last book in the series, the door is open for more." - Booklist

"Given the circumstances, it is believable that their relationship would be rushed, but the initial antagonistic tone set up between them still seems too easily resolved, resulting in a formulaic feel. Ages 12+." - Kirkus Reviews

"It is a testament to the author's skill that This World We Live In can be read as a stand-alone novel." - School Library Journal

Keep Them Coming!
I loved this newest installment of the series, just read it for the second time. It is so easy to just sink into this story, the narrative is like listening to someone tell the story to you in a conversation, and once you start, you can't stop. I hope that there will be more. I would love to see them find a safe town, see how they find their way, how life is lived there, and see also how the relationships continue to develop. This is truly a fascinating story, and chilling because it could actually happen. Please continue it!

This world we live in
I loved this book, and I hope the series should continue. Personally, I think it should not be a stand alone book, it has so much more depth if you know what Alex has been through in his past. I hate reading, but these have sunk into my heart, and I can read them in 2 days! They have made so grateful for what I have, but scared this will happen to me. I loved these books, there the best thing I've ever read!
